This (still in progress) text-art series riffs on Ed Ruscha’s News, Mews, Pews, Brews, Stews & Dues, flipping the geographic lens: where Ruscha explored Britain through an American eye, this series peers at the United States through a British one. A set of rhyming, epigrammatic word-portraits — Luck, Buck, Fuck — rendered in graphite and glitched by layers of asemic and constrained asemic writing. The legible becomes partial. Meaning stutters.
In place of British mushy peas and tea (Ruscha’s printing ink of choice), this work extracts colour from the linguistic detritus of Trump’s 2025 Executive Orders & Proclamations , using Python to convert presidential prose into a palette. Buried in each piece are broken images sourced from an abandoned online archive of Ruscha’s original series — a quiet memento mori for political legacy, the web, and America’s recurring fondness for collapse.
